Just when you thought it was safe to discuss the Lakers without mentioning LaVar Ball, the loquacious 50-year-old is back in the headlines.
The latest drama? Ball claims that his son, Lonzo, will not re-sign with the Lakers if Los Angeles does not sign LiAngelo and LaMelo as well.
There are at least three problems with this out-of-nowhere ultimatum: one, LiAngelo is not considered an NBA-ready prospect, two, LaMelo is only 16, and three, Ball is out of his mind.
Luckily for Lakers, no one takes Ball seriously.
“We don’t really look into it,” 22-year-old Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma said on Reiter Than You. “Lonzo doesn’t look into it.”
Yes, that might be because Lonzo is too busy working on his shot. He’s averaging 10.2 points, 7.1 assists and 7.1 rebounds, but he’s shooting just 35.6 percent from the floor.
Still, the Lakers (23-32) have won eight of 11 overall.
“At the end of the day, it’s about us,” said Kuzma, who is averaging 15.7 points and 5.9 rebounds. “We have to win games. We don’t focus on anything else. All the outside noise, we don’t pay attention to.”
